03 Sep ProtoSpace Progress
By TJ Ferrill
After a restful Labor Day weekend, it’s another busy week at the Marriott Library! Everyone is looking forward to Hooplaza and progress continues on our up-and-coming ProtoSpace. The ProtoSpace website will be live soon – huge thanks to our web development team for working so diligently on that and a whole host of other changes to the Marriott Library’s website.
I don’t want to steal too much thunder from my colleagues working on VR and 3D Printing, but I am excited to mention a whole range of equipment and projects that are in the works. As Luke mentioned in the previous post, there’s a lot of activity going on in ProtoSpace. We have deployed the Library’s 3D printers in the new space, and can’t wait to roll out the latest hardware as it comes in. We have also been working towards launching the new arena-scale VR area, which boasts a 50 x 25 foot playable area. Other changes include the deployment of our vinyl cutter.
In the near future we will be relocating the video game consoles and viewing stations from their current location in the Fine Arts & Architecture Library. We have also been working on some creative visualizations using 3D printing and GIS data that will encourage participants to think of new ways of exploring and communicating data. We also look forward to the installation of new One-Button Studios in ProtoSpace. Beyond that, we look forward to future improvements that make the space more appealing to researchers and learners from all disciplines.
Thanks for reading! See you all soon.
